Overview of Erasmus Mundus Programs

Candidates for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degree could come from any nation, age, or experience level. But before the program begins, you must have completed your bachelor’s degree or be in your final year of study to be eligible for the scholarship. There are almost 200+ distinct programs available in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Catalogue, depending on your background, interests, and future career ambition — from Agro to Social Science and humanities. For example, Communications Engineering and Data Science, Children’s Literature Media and Cultural Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Forest and Nature Management, Architectural and Urban Contemporary Heritage, and International Master in Innovative Medicine.

Even if the curriculum does not exactly match what you have previously studied, you can still apply. In these circumstances, however, the cover letter needs to make clear why you are writing. A group of universities offering higher education together provides the programs. Typically, three to six European universities make up the cooperation. You must study two of them at least for the curriculum. Studies may be conducted not just in the EU but also in other program countries, such as Brazil or Japan. The master’s program lasts for one to two academic years, or 60, 90, or 120 ECTS credits. After graduating, you will receive multiple degrees (i.e., at least two-degree certificates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium) or a joint degree (i.e., one single degree certificate produced on behalf of at least two higher education colleges).

Scholarship

The top-ranked applicants are offered scholarships that cover the cost of a student’s participation in the program, as well as travel and living expenses and insurance. Each program annually awards approximately 20-25 scholarships. The scholarship pays €1,400 a month, a maximum of 24 months. The most significant variables are your academic performance and motivation. You should persuade the selection committee that the master’s program is a natural extension of your past studies and that you are prepared to apply what you have learned in your future job. Relevant professional or research experience, as well as volunteer or social activity, are optional but can provide a competitive edge.

How to apply for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship?

An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is a respected, integrated international study program given collaboratively by a global network of higher education institutions.

The primary purpose is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe through collaboration and mobility efforts. Furthermore, it aims to position the European Union as a leader in education and cross-cultural communication with non-EU countries. Follow the given steps to apply for the Scholarship:

Step 1 – Check their website to find out about the Erasmus Mundus courses they provide.

As you can see, the “EMJMD Catalogue” is a really lengthy list. It includes every Erasmus Mundus program opportunity currently open for applications.

You are basically asking for admission to the master’s program as well as the scholarship when you submit your application for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. There is no need for additional applications. The application is submitted via the course website.

Step 2 – Visit the websites for each program’s particular course for further details on the goals and format of the courses.

It’s also worth noting that because the European Commission only sponsors Erasmus Mundus master’s programs for five years, they often come and go. They can only be extended for a further five years following assessment.

Step 3 – The next step is to cross-check your eligibility.

As a result, you’ve concentrated on programs that align with your own goals and career objectives. Your next step should be to review their qualifying conditions.

You should keep an eye out for the following information, among others:

Are they interested in recruiting students from diverse backgrounds, or do they only accept graduates from certain bachelor’s programs?
Are there any specific technical skills required for them?
Are there any language requirements?

At this point, you should also be informed of your Erasmus Mundus category, as it will affect the value and possibility of your scholarship.

Step 4 – Limiting your options to three (which is the maximum number of applications for Erasmus Mundus).

For your application, select no more than three Erasmus Mundus programs. Do not forget that submitting more than three applications in any one round of submissions will result in your application being rejected.

Step 5 – Make a documentation checklist for each program.

Once you’ve determined that you’re qualified, review the list of required documentation.

Make sure you have all of your documents prepared in English or whichever language the organizers may require. You must make accurate preparations because this may require time and money.

Step 6 – Become acquainted with the application’s online platform to ensure that you possess all of the necessary information and paperwork.

As was earlier pointed out, Erasmus Mundus applicants must submit an ONLINE APPLICATION. The website for the program includes a platform for uploading applications. Meanwhile, others may require you to submit both an online and a postal application.

Step 7 – Schedule a day, gather the appropriate documentation, and submit your application!

Choose your time range after deciding which programs (up to three) you want to apply to. It’s a good idea to visit their websites as soon as possible so you have plenty of time to get the documents. The call for applications usually begins in November and ends in December. You can start preparing your application as early as June.

If you need to give proof of your English language proficiency, you should begin planning early. Check the application processes for the IELTS or TOEFL exams to ensure the program you want to apply to will accept these documents. Some Erasmus Mundus programs only accept IELTS Academic Test scores, while others allow scores from the TOEFL and Cambridge tests.

Whether your undergraduate degree was in English, you can also contact the program administrators via email and ask whether you can submit a “Proof of English as a Language of Instruction.” We are confident that in this case, asking and obtaining it from your institution will take less time.
