Educational Qualifications Required for a Ph.D. in Pharmacy in Germany

Applicants applying for a PhD in pharmacy should have a master’s degree equivalent to the master’s degree course requirements specified by the particular university the applicant is applying to.

Certain universities may require an applicant to complete a course or two in the university itself after being admitted to the Ph.D. program. This might be to fulfil certain course requirements and depends on the university and the applicant. This does not apply to everyone.

Application Requirements for a Ph.D. in Pharmacy in Germany

Academic records:

Transcripts from every institution where the applicant completed high school, undergraduate and postgraduate, in addition to any academic institution where the candidate pursued a degree for one year as a full-time student.

The transcripts should provide information about the courses taken by the applicant during all the degrees and the marks contained in each course.

Curriculum Vitae:

The university you are applying to may or may not require a curriculum vitae. However, it is always a safe move to keep it ready as chances are high that you will need to submit one while filling out the application form.

Proof of English Proficiency or German Language:

English:

Candidates are required to submit either TOEFL, IELTS or CAE scores, as required by the university they are applying to. The minimum score required by each university will be available on their website for admission.

We have listed later on in this blog a few popular German universities offering a PhD in Pharmacy and their score requirements.

If the applicant completed his or her undergraduate degree in a college where the primary medium of instruction was English, the applicant will have to provide a suitable certificate for the same from a faculty.

German:

Check in the requirements of the particular university you wish to apply to to understand their German language requirements, if any.

Statement of Purpose

A Statement of Purpose, or a Letter of Motivation, is a few hundred words long essays in which the applicant has to highlight the major reasons for choosing the degree, the motivation behind it, their academic and/or extracurricular activities and achievements, their hobbies and in general give a good glimpse of their personality.

Statement of Purpose is often a very important part of the application, be it for undergraduate, postgraduate or Ph.D. admissions.

The word limit for the Statement of Purpose, as well as the point to be included in the same, vary from one university to another. Hence, make sure that you read the requirements of your university before beginning to write the Statement Of Purpose.

Reference Letters / Letters of Recommendation:

You will require letters of recommendation, mostly from your professors or guides during your undergraduate or postgraduate degrees.

The number of recommendation letters required depends on the particular university you are applying to. Some universities might give a pre-specified letter of recommendation format or a form for the same while some will not provide a form or format and will require your recommender to write a letter himself or herself.

GRE / GATE Scores:

Certain universities would require standardized test scores like the GRE or GATE scores. These scores might not be compulsory, but if the university provides an option of either or not submitting one, then a good score can fetch your application extra brownie points.

Whether your university requires the GRE General Test or Subject tests, you can find out on its website. For universities where standardized tests are compulsory to submit, check the university’s website to find out the minimum score required, if any.
